Work is ongoing for Amicitia, a 34' Friendship Sloop designed by John Alden and built at the Lash Brothers yard in Friendship, Maine in 1965. Last year, Elk Spar & Boat Shop built a hollow sitka spruce mast for the owner of this boat and when we delivered the mast to New Bedford, MA, he asked that we take a look at the boat. The joint between the cabinside and deck had failed over the years and rotted everything in the vacinity. So Amicitia came to Maine and we are replacing the cabinsides, the deck around the cabin, some of the deck framing and one of the aft cabin bulkheads. We will also be replacing some of the hull planking.
